Artist Statement
For my project I decided to make small, detailed sculptures. This was my first time ever doing ceramics and I quickly realized I was not good at wheel throwing. Every time I made a bowl or plate, something was always wrong, but as soon as we started making slabs I knew it was what I wanted to do for the art show. Each sculpture is filled with different textures and shapes, and no two sculptures look alike. While picking a glaze I wanted to make sure that you could still see the intricate texture so I chose to use a celadon glaze. This made the colors look more like stained glass windows rather than just normal thick glaze. You've probably also noticed that one of the sculptures is bigger than the other three. I made it bigger so I could try out new textures and shapes. I hope you enjoy my work!
